Alcohol ink has something for everyone; from professional artists to those who have never painted at all. In this class we will focus on controlling the alcohol ink to create a more realistic painting. You will be given step by step instructions for using alcohol inks to create butterflies, flowers and gardens. I know you will be inspired to continue using this wonderful medium!
Inks: Jacquard Piñata Exciter Pack - The Piñata Exciter Pack features an assortment of 9 popular Piñata colors, including 3 true primary, secondary colors, black, white and a metallic gold - making this pack an excellent starter pack for mixing!
In addition to the colors that come in the Exciter Pack, the Individual Jacquard Piñata Colors that I like to use include Lime Green, Sangria, Sapphire Blue, Chili Pepper Red, Burro Brown, and Silver.

Yupo® Paper - a pad of transparent or opaque white no smaller than 9x12. If you prefer to trace your image the transparent works best. Please cut 2 larger sheets (11X14) into fourths or 9X12 sheets in half for the exercises we will do. It comes in 74, 104 and 144 lb. weights (the higher the number the heavier the paper). You might want to try the 104 since it is in the middle, but any weight will do.
Paint brushes: Brushes that will work well are Creative Mark or Polar Flo small paint brushes, tiny tips.
MUST HAVE: One rigger brush size 1 or 2. You will need small round brushes with which to work on the paintings. If you are working on a large project you may need larger brushes. Polar Flo watercolor brushes are an excellent option.
A Welled Palette
Masking Fluid - Incredible White Mask
Disposable latex or nonlatex gloves
Brushes for masking fluid, like the Creative Mark Masking Fluid Brush Set of 10. Masking fluid will ruin brushes so these inexpensive disposable brushes or other applicators are perfect for using with masking fluid. I prefer and use Grafix The Incredible Nib.
Gelly Roll White Ink Pens
Black Micron or Pitt pens
Cotton balls, cotton swabs, Makeup sponges, drinking straws, wooden coffee stirrers, toothpicks, sponges, canned air, or any applicator with which you wish to experiment!
I will have reference photos of butterflies but you may also bring printed pictures of butterflies for the controlled painting exercises.
Wear old clothing because these inks stain permanently. Please let Jane know if you have any questions (firstname.lastname@example.org).
