In this class, you’ll learn various ways to produce realistic paintings using alcohol inks. Jane will lead you through planning your painting, and applying and combining techniques like free flow alcohol inks, pouring, painting with brushes, and using masking fluid. You’ll get step by step instructions for creating beautiful paintings using alcohol inks.

With colors so bright and vibrant, everyone will enjoy the results of your alcohol ink paintings!

Inks: Jacquard Piñata Exciter Pack - The Piñata Exciter Pack features an assortment of 9 popular Piñata colors, including 3 true primary, secondary colors, black, white and a metallic gold - making this pack an excellent starter pack for mixing!

In addition to the colors that come in the Exciter Pack, the Individual Jacquard Piñata Colors that I like to use include Lime Green, Sangria, Sapphire Blue, Chili Pepper Red, Burro Brown, and Silver.

Yupo® Paper - a pad of opaque white in whatever size you want. We can cut 2 larger sheets (11X14) into fourths or 9X12 sheets in half for the exercises we will do. It comes in 74 and 144 lb. weights (the higher the number the heavier the paper).

Some of the sheets should be cut into fourths for the beginning exercises. For the afternoon you may want to work on a full sheet (11X14 or 9X12).

Fine mist spray bottle

Paintbrushes: Brushes that will work well are Creative Mark Small paint brushes, tiny tips. MUST HAVE: One rigger brush size 1 or 2. You will need small round brushes, sizes 1-4, with which to work on the paintings. If you are working on a large project you may need larger brushes such as sizes 8-12. Polar Flo brushes work great for this.

A Welled Palette

Masking Fluid - Incredible White Mask

Disposable latex or nonlatex gloves

Masking fluid will ruin brushes so these inexpensive disposable brushes or other applicators are perfect for using with masking fluid. I really like the Incredible Nib for applying masking fluid.

Gelly Roll White Ink Pens

Black Micron or Pitt pens

Cotton balls, cotton swabs, Makeup sponges, drinking straws, wooden coffee stirrers, toothpicks, sponges, canned air, or any applicator with which you wish to experiment

Bring printed pictures of animals or birds for the controlled painting exercises.

Wear old clothing because these inks stain permanently. Please let Jane know if you have any questions (jds@steelmanstudios.com).
